Brighton's club-record run of 24 league games without a goal conceded came to an end on that occasion. In a mostly sombre encounter between the two teams at London Stadium to begin 2024, Brighton enjoyed more control and better opportunities. However, they were unable to penetrate a West Ham defence that has now preserved four straight clean sheets.
De Zerbi was pleased with his defence despite claiming that the media's attention on Brighton's inability to keep opponents out was more their fault than his own.
