Wolverhampton Wanderers defeated Chelsea 2-1 in the Premier League with second-half goals from Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty. Christopher Nkunku also scored his first goal for Chelsea. Wolves climbed up to 11th position with 22 points, level with 10th-placed Chelsea but behind the London club on goal difference. Chelsea's greatest opportunity of the first half came from Raheem Sterling, who grabbed the ball from last man Joao Gomes and dashed into the Wolves area, with only keeper Jose Sa to beat. Sa stopped the shot, thereby ending the three-on-one situation.
Chelsea paid the price for their squandering six minutes after halftime when Lemina was unmarked and his header from Pablo Sarabia's corner soared into the net. When Benoit Badiashile failed to deal with Hugo Bueno's cross, an unmarked Matt Doherty guided his shot past Chelsea goalie Djordje Petrovic.
