Xavi Simons set for PSG return

Simons’ future remains unclear. Whilst it is expected that the Dutch playmaker will return to PSG, RB Leipzig have expressed a desire to retain the player. Simons himself also has a say in his future. As per a report from Le Parisien, a clause within his contract stipulates that it is Simons himself who can decide whether he returns to PSG, or whether his loan spell is extended. Game time opportunities and Champions League football are thought to be determining factors.

PSG will certainly feature in the Champions League next season, whilst Kylian Mbappé’s departure, coupled with Luís Enrique’s praise of the Dutch international in recent weeks, alludes to significant playing opportunities next season. As a result, it is now expected that Simons will return to the Parc des Princes at the end of the current campaign. Leipzig have identified KRC Genk’s Bilal El Khannouss as the perfect replacement.
