40-year-old Taj Gibson set to sign two-year deal with Memphis Grizzlies

Before officially adding Gibson, the front office temporarily signed Rayan Rupert to a ten-day deal to meet league roster requirements. Gibson’s addition returns Memphis to fifteen standard contracts alongside their two-way players. Approaching his fortieth birthday, the forward is preparing for his seventeenth NBA season, ranking among the league's very oldest athletes.

Last year, he appeared in thirty-seven contests for the Charlotte Hornets, contributing efficient numbers with approximately three points and rebounds per game. Originally a 2009 draft pick by Chicago, his career has included stops in Oklahoma City, Minnesota, New York, Washington, and Detroit.

For the Grizzlies, Gibson serves primarily as a locker room stabilizer. His value is defined by leadership and professionalism, providing crucial mentorship to a young developing team rather than relying on significant athletic output.
