In their opening match on Thursday night, Dallas Mavericks could not overpower Atlanta Hawks and fell by 113-87 to the team. Trae Young led Hawks with 19 points and 14 assists as well while Luka Doncic tried to give Mavericks offense some teeth with 18 points. Dallas started out well with a 10-4 lead on the Hawks but their defense got sloppy later own giving Hawks a golden opportunity to climb up and take the lead Atlanta then took a 22-20 into the second quarter.
Hawks had built a double-digit lead in the second quarter itself and Dallas’s ineffective offense with poor spacing continued as they fell behind. By halftime Dallas was trailing by 51-44, in the second half Mavs could not stop Hawks from scoring and the gap grew wider to a 30 point lead.
