J.J. Barea was an iconic figure at Mavs. The player has time and again proved his worth, he has graduated from the role of backup point guard to be a part of the starting five for Mavs and has been a consistent face at Mavs. The fan-favorite player’s role though shifted last season when Jalen Brunson took the reigns and featured in just 29 games.
Mavs had resigned the player in a one-year guaranteed agreement this offseason but with 16 players on the roster one would have to be dropped and Mavs have decided to let the player go and Barea is hoping for the decision to come sooner so that he may find another team as he wishes to play in the upcoming season. This works for the player as he wasn’t going to get enough playtime with players like Luka Doncic, Brunson, and Trey Burke.
