Knicks still viewed as 2027 favorites over rebuilt Sixers

Yet former NBA center Brendan Haywood believes the reigning champions remain the team to beat, citing New York’s chemistry, proven identity and leadership from Jalen Brunson and Karl‑Anthony Towns.

The Knicks did suffer a major loss with Mitchell Robinson’s departure to Boston, a move both Haywood and Ric Bucher consider significant. Bucher emphasized Robinson’s impact during last season’s title run, especially his ability to contain Victor Wembanyama. Still, he argues New York’s collective experience and structure keep them firmly in contention, even as they search for a replacement.
