The Lakers' opening half was dubbed their "best defensive half of the season" by head coach Darvin Ham, who also gave thanks to a number of players, notably Austin Reaves, whose early-game block of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander set the tone for the team's defensive performance. Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 20 points despite only making five of his 13 field goal attempts overall. This was made possible in large part by his nine foul line tries, which were all flawless. Additionally, the Lakers prevented Jalen Williams from scoring seven points on two of his nine attempts from the field, while Chet Holmgren scored fifteen points on six of his fourteen attempts.
With 26 points, D'Angelo Russell led the way and made nine of his seventeen field goals and five of his eleven three-pointers. Although Russell had three assists and six rebounds, his shooting was the game-winner.
