Lakers’ were without LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, while Nets missed Kevin Durant, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Blake Griffin for the big preseason opener. At Staples Center, Anthony Davis was the only star to play in the opener, logging in 11 minutes in the first quarter and giving some practice time to the young players in the loss of 123-97. The top scorer for the night from both sides was Net’s Cam Thomas with 21 points, and Malik Monk led the Lakers with 15 points.
The match remained competitive throughout except for the last quarter when Nets ran away with the match outscoring Lakers with 39-16. Wayne Ellington and Howard scored 11 points each while Horton-Tucker who was welcomed by the crowd with a cheer scored 10 points for Lakers.
