LeBron James and Steven Curry have enjoyed a competitive rivalry for a long time. James led Cleveland Cavaliers to NBA Finals four times from 2015 to 2018 facing Curry's Golden State Warriors on the opposite side on all four times where Warriors won three times. This year an injured Lakers would be facing a depleted Warriors squad in the NBA's new play-in tournament where the middle rankings team fight for a playoff spot.
Laker’s finished 7th in the regular season and would take on Warriors on Wednesday. If Lakers secure a win they would then take on Phoenix Suns. If they lose they would take on the winner of Memphis Grizzlies vs. the San Antonio Spurs and this matches’ winner would then face Utah Jazz in the first round of the playoffs. A loss in both matches means elimination.
