Both parties confirmed on Saturday that Luka Doncic and the Lakers have agreed to a three-year, $165 million deal extension, including a player option for the third year. Luka Doncic, who arrived in Los Angeles on February 1st to support big man Anthony Davis and other players, was the Lakers' highly regarded mid-season acquisition from the previous season. The Lakers may restructure Doncic's contract in the summer of 2027 and give him a four-year, $323 million extension before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2028.
The 26-year-old talent, who was born in Slovenia, joined Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka at a press conference on Saturday to make the announcement. After acquiring Doncic last season, the Lakers were defeated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs, which was a sad outcome. Pelinka signed veterans Marcus Smart and Deandre Ayton as part of his off-season efforts to bolster the team.
