On Sunday night, Oklahoma City defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 118–112, increasing their record to 37–38 overall. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, an all-star guard for the Thunder, took the team in scoring with 31 points, four steals, three assists, and two rebounds. After a poor start, OKC fell down 9-3 after three minutes of play. Gilgeous-steal-and-slam Alexander's dunk in transition and Josh Giddey's second fastbreak dunk brought Oklahoma City back within two.
The Thunder were down 14-9 at the halfway mark of the first quarter despite five points from Giddey and four from SGA. With fewer than three minutes left in the first quarter, Portland had taken a 10-point lead over OKC, and Oklahoma was continuing to lag behind. The Trail Blazers led by 37 points going into the second quarter, making it the third game in a row that Oklahoma City has given up 35 points or more in the opening period.
