The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Denver Nuggets 149-106 on Wednesday night, tying the Western Conference semifinal series at one game each. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 34 points in three quarters, setting both league and franchise records. With 87 points in the first half, Oklahoma City broke the NBA playoff record established by the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Golden State Warriors in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on June 9, 2017. With one second left in the second quarter, Chet Holmgren, who missed two crucial free throws late in Game 1, hit a pair to establish the record and put the Thunder ahead 87-56.
The Thunder tied the record for points in any half of a playoff game. Milwaukee had 87 in the second half against Denver on April 23, 1978. Oklahoma City became the first home team to win a game in the second round. Game 3 is Friday in Denver.
