The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Indiana Pacers 120-109 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday night, moving one win away from a championship with a career playoff-high 40 points from Jalen Williams and 31 from MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
The Thunder players combined for over 70 points in a game for the tenth time, and it was by far the largest. Gilgeous-Alexander had 10 assists, while Williams was 14 of 24 from the field. Indiana, which currently trails the series 3-2, will host Game 6 on Thursday night after Pascal Siakam scored 28 points. In the fourth quarter, the Pacers cut an 18-point lead to two thanks to 18 points from TJ McConnell, but they saw the Thunder pull away once more, this time permanently. In 31 prior chances, teams who prevailed in Game 5 of a 2-2 NBA Finals series have won the series 23 times, or 74% of the time.
