Fans who came to the preseason home opener got more than they paid for, with half of the crowd still wearing their NBA championship attire. Before the plug was pulled, they had the opportunity to watch actual regular-season basketball for an hour.
The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Charlotte Hornets 122-116. The majority of the former's starters reminded everyone in the first half of why they are the current NBA champions and of all the records they smashed en route to that position last season. The Thunder had a 31-21 lead after the first quarter. As Gilgeous-Alexander went off the floor, the bench lineup had their turn to get into a groove. They eventually led by as many as 20 points. After it looked like OKC would put in a second straight blowout against Charlotte, the Hornets closed on a 20-8 run to make things interesting.
