Why did Lakers let Jared Dudley go?

Jared Dudley played at Staples Center for two seasons with Los Angeles Lakers and in the two years he spent he did not get enough game time on the floor but as a teammate, he had a strong locker room presence. Dudley then went on to join Dallas and be part of Jason Kidd’s staff. His move did upset LeBron James.

While Lakers roster is majorly made up of veterans why would they want to keep one more? His knowledge and skills as a veteran were simply not worth the big bucks he wanted to draw as a player. All lakers could have done is taken him on as an assistant coach though they lacked a space on the staff room. Mavericks on the other hand needed to build a team around Kidd and his lack of coaching experience did not matter.
