Bowler Mark Wood of England will have to wait anxiously to find out if the elbow ailment that has kept him out of action for the whole season is indeed a stress fracture. Wood was informed that he wouldn't be ready for the winter tours of Pakistan and New Zealand before Christmas, and he hasn't played since the opening Test match against Sri Lanka in August.
Due to prior issues with the joint, the 34-year-old athlete was first sidelined with a minor groin ailment and had just his right elbow pain evaluated as a precaution. Later, England announced that he will not play cricket again in 2024 because of a "bone stress injury," making sure to make no mention of a break. However, Wood disclosed that experts were still trying to identify the root of the problem when providing commentary for BBC Radio's Test Match Special during the third game of the Metro Bank ODI series at Durham.
