Aaron Finch is to retire from ODI cricket

The final One Day International (ODI) game for Australia captain Aaron Finch will be against New Zealand on Sunday, September 11. Finch, who has played 145 ODIs for Australia, has had a terrible year in 50-over cricket, scoring just 26 runs in his past seven innings.

Finch will continue to lead the team in this year's T20 World Cup even though he won't be a part of the Australian team for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2024. Despite his ODI career coming to an end, Finch will retire with an outstanding record that includes more than 5400 runs and 17 hundred. At the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), he made his debut against Sri Lanka in 2013 and scored 148 runs, smashing his first hundred.  “It is time now to give a new leader the best possible opportunity to prepare for and win the next World Cup,” said Finch.
