Priyansh Arya showed impressive composure for a debutant while Josh Inglis played a game-changing knock as Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by seven wickets on Monday to secure a spot in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League. Chasing 185, Punjab had a slow start, but Inglis (73 off 42) and Arya (62 off 35) stitched a match-winning 109-run partnership off 59 balls, taking their team home in 18.3 overs. Captain Shreyas Iyer (26* off 16) sealed the win with a six off Trent Boult.
Earlier, Punjab bowlers did well to restrict Mumbai to 184/7 at a venue known for high scores. Though both teams had already qualified for the playoffs, this win guaranteed Punjab a top-two finish, giving them two shots at the final. It also marks Punjab Kings’ first playoff qualification since 2014. They now head to Mullanpur for Qualifier 1 on May 29.
