Nathan Ellis, a Tasmanian fast bowler who was born in New South Wales, has taken his spot in Australia's ODI team for the tour. On Saturday, Richardson played four overs for Fremantle in the Western Australian premier cricket league before injuring the same hamstring that kept him out of the second half of the Big Bash League. Prior to being removed from the field, Richardson was on fire in his comeback, going 3 for 5 in his first 4 over. Shaun Marsh scored 60 from 74 balls in a 152-run chase, and Fremantle defeated Wanneroo Wan with ease with to Ashton Turner's two wickets.
Richardson was one of the leading wicket-takers in the BBL before suffering an injury, which prevented him from helping the Perth Scorchers reach the BBL playoffs. Richardson has recently battled to remain on the field, and the injury is the most recent setback in a discouraging series of issues.
