According to sources, if the present team fails to reach the World Test Championship final for the 2023–25 cycle, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may decide to move on and concentrate on creating a new Test team, putting the future of the senior Indian players in jeopardy.
For the first time in Indian cricket history, the current Test side, captained by Rohit Sharma, has been under fire for their appalling performance against New Zealand at home, losing 0–3 in the longest format. India would now need to win four and draw one Test to guarantee that destiny stays in their hands and go to the WTC final for the third time in a row. The issue is that, with the Border-Gavaskar series in Australia starting later this month, India only has five Test matches left, and they are all against Australia.
