Ben Stokes’ absence from the IPL

In light of recent modifications to the Indian Premier League (IPL) regulations that stipulate outside players who did not join this auction would not be eligible for the 2026 season, England Test captain Ben Stokes has decided to forego both the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Former England bowler James Anderson and pacer Jofra Archer have both registered for the November auction, in contrast to Stokes' choice, which is consistent with his dedication to England's international schedule.

Given that 52 players have signed up for the pool and that several English players will be fighting for spots in the IPL auction on November 24–25, Ben Stokes' absence is noteworthy. The IPL's new regulations render the 33-year-old ineligible for 2025 and 2026 as a result of his withdrawal. Stokes, who guided England to victory in the Ashes series, seems intent on maintaining his form for the Test and white-ball series.
