Black Caps start off well against Sri Lanka

Play didn't start until well after two today afternoon after the first session was postponed due to the weather. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl. Before Tom Latham was bowled for 21 runs, he and Devon Conway, the openers, piled up 87 runs for the first wicket. Conway and Kane Williamson each have 73 points at the interval.

After winning the first test in Christchurch on the last ball, New Zealand is ahead 1-0 in the two-match series. The injured Neil Wagner has been replaced in the Black Caps' starting eleven by fast bowler Doug Bracewell. Since 2016, Bracewell has not tested. Five of the Black Caps' past six games at Basin Reserve have ended in victories. With the dire weather prediction, Bracewell appeared to have little chances of replacing the injured Neil Wagner in the New Zealand Eleven for the second test against Sri Lanka, which begins in Wellington on Friday.
