As the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicked off on Sunday, Chennai Super Kings had decided to bat first after winning the toss to set up a score of 156/6 for Mumbai Indians to chase down later. CSK in their second opener did not start off well as they were sporting a score of 44 for 4 at halfway, but later Ruturaj Gaikwad rescued the team as he stood firm against the attacks by Mumbai Indians to post an unbeaten 88 runs on the scoreboard to push CSK to a decent score who were facing the defending champions in UAE.
MI who had a good chance of winning the match stumbled at first losing three important wickets and could not recover from the bad start despite the thundering 50 by Saurabh Tiwary. CSK in the end limited MI to 136 runs and won the first match of the second phase by 20 runs to go to the top of the charts.
