Concerns raised about the Women's T20 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh

The ICC's internal security team is closely monitoring the unrest in Bangladesh, where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and fled the country amidst massive protests. These events have raised concerns about the Women's T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place from October 3 to 20, potentially prompting a change of venue. An interim government, led by Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman, has been announced in Dhaka as protests over a controversial quota system have intensified, resulting in over 100 fatalities in recent days.

For now, the ICC has adopted a "wait and watch" approach. The situation echoes the unrest in Sri Lanka in March 2022, when protests erupted against former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa over corruption and inflation, leading to significant changes in the country’s leadership. The ICC will decide on the World Cup's fate as the situation evolves.
