Chennai Super Kings were facing the table topper, Delhi Capitals in the first qualifier of Indian Premier League 2021. After having lost three matches back to back CSK was struggling to maintain the winning form that saw them in the first position for a major part of the tournament. Chasing a big target of 173, CSK was off to a flying start with a 110-run second-wicket partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad (70) and Robin Uthappa (63).
But after both the in-form player left the field CSK struggled to put runs on the scoreboard while for Delhi a win remained within reach. Delhi pace bowler Tom Curran was defending 13 runs in the final over which seemed like an easy win and after clinching Moeen Ali’s wicket on the first ball it seemed all was over for Chennai but Dhoni stepped up and hit three boundaries to win with two balls to spare.
