Ben Duckett and Harry Brook both smashed their first Twenty20 half-centuries as England fought to defeat Pakistan by 63 runs on Friday. A day after attempting to chase down 199, Pakistan's top order collapsed in the face of quick spinners Mark Wood and Reece Topley, finishing on 158-8. In their opening game of the series, Wood recorded 3-24 with a speed that reached 156 kph (97 mph), while Reece recorded 1-22 as England substituted them for David Willey and Luke Wood.
With four more games left, England has a 2-1 series advantage. Sunday sees them return to Karachi. The heroics of Thursday night, when captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan guided Pakistan to a 10-wicket victory with an outstanding double-century partnership, were unable to be repeated. “We will strive not to make the same mistakes in the upcoming games, but our bowling was also below par,” said Babar.
