In a low-scoring thrilling encounter, Royal Challengers Bangalore came out on top to hand Kolkata Knight Riders their first defeat of the season. RCB took bowling first with the work cut out for the bowlers as they faced the side that took out the defending champions in the IPL opener. Akash Deep, Wanindu Hasaranga and Mohammed Siraj then made their dent, with Hasaranga grabbing four important scalps which included the captain Shreyas Iyer, Sunil Narine, Sheldon Jackson and Tim Southee.
While Harshal created a record to become the first bowler to get two consecutive wicket-maidens and helped curtail KKR to 128 runs. Later in their chase RCB stumbled and lost their top three batters cheaply later David Willey and power-hitter Sherfane Rutherford provided stability and shared a 45-runs stand and helped the side win by three wickets.
