With the win Hurricanes grabbed the last playoff spot as well in 2021-22 Big Bash with one game to go after crushing Melbourne Renegades by six runs. Hurricanes will join Perth Scorchers, Sydney Sixers, Sydney Thunder, and Adelaide Strikers in the next stage of the tournament.
Batting first Hurricanes lost Ben McDermott at 3 but Caleb Jewell and a resurgent Matthew Wade added 67 runs (51 balls) for the subsequent wicket. Wade came close to a half-century with a knock of 48 off 39 Cameron Boyce and Josh Lalor were the main wicket-takers as Hobart slipped to 119 for 4. Later Tim David and D'Arcy Short partnership added crucial points to the score to end with 182. In answer, Renegades deployed Aaron Finch who added 75 off 52 and kept the team in the lead but the team fell short by six runs.
