ICC reveals the plans for expansion of 50-over and T20 World Cups

The International Cricket Council unveiled the plans to expand 50-over World Cup and Twenty20 World Cup finals as well ICC will bring back the Champions Trophy. World Cup would now involve 14-team and it would be a 54 match event in 2027 and 2031 while in the T20 World Cup 20 teams can participate and 55 matches would be played every two years from 2024. In the 50-over World Cup format in the group stage, the teams would be divided into two groups of seven teams and then the top three teams would advance to the Super Six stage, which would then be followed by the semifinals and the final.

The format of the T20 World Cup is almost similar but would involve four groups of five teams, thereafter the top two teams would participate in the Super Eights stage, then semi-finals and finals. In Champions Trophy eight teams would get to participate in 2025 than in 2029.
