India became the first team to beat an opposition in ODIs by more than 300 runs

In the third ODI, played on January 15 in Thiruvananthapuram, the hosts destroyed Sri Lanka by 317 runs to set a new world record. India became the first side in ODI cricket history to win by a margin of at least 300 runs. India shattered the mark previously held by New Zealand, which defeated Ireland in 2008 by a score of 290 runs. After scoring 414 runs against Bermuda in the 2007 World Cup, India's previous record was 257 runs.

After the hosts scored 390 on Sunday, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 73 in just 22 overs. Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami each contributed two wickets, and Mohammed Siraj finished with 4 for 32. In actuality, Virat Kohli made 166 not out, which is his second-highest total in ODI cricket, to defeat Sri Lanka by a margin of 93 runs.
