India is on driving seat, thanks to Iyer, Bumrah, and Shami

The M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru proved to be a bowlers' paradise on Day 1 of the Pink Ball Test between India and Sri Lanka, with 16 wickets falling. After the hosts were bowled out for 252 in their first inning on Saturday, India's speed combination of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami struck in tandem to upset Sri Lanka.

With Lasith Embuldeniya and Niroshan Dickwella in the middle, Sri Lanka reached Stumps on Day 1 at 86/6, trailing the Rohit Sharma-led team by 166 runs. Only Sri Lankan hitter Angelo Mathews appeared to be in control during his time at the crease. Bumrah accounted for Mathews' wicket with an easy dismissal, for 43 runs.

Iyer made batting look effortless with 92-run innings including 10 fours and four sixes. He was stumped by Praveen Jayawickrama (3/81) attempting for a big shot, therefore he missed out on his second Test century.
