On day three of the fourth Test in Ranchi, an inspiring comeback by India dashed England's hopes of forcing a series decider. With tenacious lower-order resistance and superb spin bowling, India completely changed the course of the game. With just three first-inning wickets remaining, the hosts started Sunday 134 runs down, but by the end of the day, they were 40-0 in their quest of 192, taking a commanding 3-1 lead.
Earlier Dhruv Jurel's 90 pulled them to 307 and England had a commanding 46-run lead. But the Indian spinners had other plans. Jonny Bairstow's thirty and Zak Crawley's appealing sixty proved to be essential in England's 145, nobody else made it above 17, with Ravichandran Ashwin stunning with a 5-51 and Kuldeep’s flawless 4-22. Later India was given 25 minutes to bat before the close and used them to great effect, scoring at five an over with Captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal still standing.
