India sets record target of 399 with help from Shubman Gill ton

On day 3 of the five-day test, James Anderson dismissed Indian captain Rohit Sharma and first innings double-centurion Yashaswi Jaiswal within the first four overs. While India was leading with a massive 171-point lead already Anderson’s quick wickets put Indian batters under pressure. In the end, India managed to score 227 runs at the finish, giving England a very lofty goal of 399.

The England openers got off to a good start, scoring 50 runs off the mark in just 11 overs. Jasprit Bumrah kept things tight at one end, but Mukesh Kumar let away 19 runs in his two overs. India later found their first breakthrough in the eleventh. Ben Duckett bat-padded one up in the air after Ravichandran Ashwin got enough bounce off the surface in his opening over, and four overs before play ended, keeper Srikar Bharat completed a diving catch. England scored 67/1 at stumps, needing 332 runs more to win with Zak Crawley and Rehan Ahmed still standing.
