India takes the first lead against Sri Lanka

India won in a breeze against the hosts in Colombo with fourteen over to spare. The Indian captain made a powerful debut with an unbeatable 86 beating Ajit Wadekar’s 67 to top scorers list as ODI debut captains behind Sachin Tendulkar’s 110 on the very ground in 1996. This also contributed to Dhawan’s other record-makings including becoming the sixth Indian to score past 50 runs as ODI captain debut, touching 6000 ODI runs and 1000 runs milestones, the latter being against Sri Lanka.

Shikhar Dhawan’s squad was on fire with Prithvi Shaw’s Man of the Match performance scoring 43 off 24 and Ishan Kishan’s debut 59 beating the 263 run target in mere 36.4 overs, bagging the 92nd win for India against Sri Lanka. Sri Lankans were restricted to 262 runs by the Indian bowlers costing them 9 wickets in 50 overs and it to end with Suryakumar Yadav’s 31* off 20.
