Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell of the Windies displayed all of their power-hitting pyro techniques at Eden Gardens, not only reviving West Indies from the early blows but also threatening India with a difficult win, but Harshal Patel and Bhuvneshwar Kumar held their nerve in the final three overs. India triumphed by eight wickets to take a commanding 2-0 series lead. India had started the match on a low note in Kolkata, with the hosts losing Ishan Kishan early on.
However, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli put up a 46-run stand to help India recover before the latter regained his rhythm and produced his 30th half-century in the format. Kohli, too, fell after his half-century when Roston Chase picked up his third wicket, but India recovered admirably thanks to a blazing 75-run stand between Rishabh Pant and Venkatesh Iyer, who helped India finish with 186/5 in 20 overs.
