India will host New Zealand Cricket's inaugural test match against Afghanistan

The one-off test will be held in Greater Noida, India from September 9 to September 13, about one month before New Zealand's three-test visit to India, the Afghanistan Cricket Board stated in a release. Having already lost to Ireland and Sri Lanka, this will be Afghanistan's third test of 2024 and the most they will have played in a calendar year. After being granted test status in 2017, Afghanistan has only triumphed in three of its ten tests, which it has played against Zimbabwe (2021), Bangladesh (2019), and Ireland (2019). ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf said the board was trying to come to an arrangement with NZ Cricket for future bilateral white-ball matches.

England, Australia, Pakistan, and South Africa will be the only nations without a test match against them after the New Zealand test. In 2021, Australia withdrew from hosting them for a test, citing humanitarian concerns. Additionally, Australia withdrew from the three-match T20I series that was scheduled for next month.
