After being dismissed on Day 1 with a low score and Australia building a good lead on Day 2 it seemed like a hopeless fight for England. But Joe Root and Dawid Malan’s knocks of 86 and 80 respectively revived England as they reached 220/2 at the end of the day while both the players would resume play tomorrow. Root leapfrogged Michael Vaughan’s 1481 runs record for most runs in a single calendar year with his 1,541 runs so far.
The Ashes 2021-22 Test at the Gabba saw England get back into action with the 159-run stand as they cut Australia’s lead to 58 runs. England limited Australia’s batsmen to just 82 runs in the morning session after they resumed on Friday at 343/7 and later on England was slumping at 61/2 when Root joined Malan at the crease and offered some support as they try to end the decade long wait for a Test win in Australia.
