Joe Root hits a century for England on Test 1 day 1 against Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka coach Mickey Arthur fumed after England captain Joe Root was issued a not out soon after he hit 102. The controversial stance by Umpire hit Sri Lanka hard after his non-dismissal at Galle after he reverse sweeped Lasith Embuldeniya in 63rd over.

Rewinding the tape in slow motion we saw Root hit the ball into the ground in an attempt to reverse sweep which later bounced off his glove and Mendis caught him but as per the rule33.2.2.2 of cricket laws it did not count as grounds for dismissal as the ball struck the ground first, while debutant Dan Lawrence posted a half-century and Jonny Bairstow fell at 47. England had bowled brilliantly on Day one of test one dismissing them at 135.
