Just one day before the inaugural World Test Championship final against India, Black Caps Captain Kane Williamson has been usurped as international cricket's best batsman. His elbow injury forced him to withdraw from the second Test match against England but is ready to return to action after a few weeks rest.
His exclusion though benefitted Australian captain and perennial run-scorer Steve Smith who overtook Williamson and now tops the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Test batting rankings. In the first test, Williamson could just score 14 runs and his ranking points fell to 886 and Smith leads with 891. Even still the Blackcaps star has an average of 108.8 runs across his last six innings which involved two double centuries and three singles in total. India skipper Virat Kohli is fourth on the list and is ahead of Joe Root.
