Skippers Jason Holder and Kane Williamson both wanted to win the toss. And, wanted to bowl on a radiant green pitch at Seddon Park on the first day of the first cricket test on Thursday. The match was between New Zealand and the West Indies.
Holder called accurately and imminently sent in New Zealand. And, Williamson terminated the day with 97 not out approaching his 21st test century. His partnership with Ross Taylor was exceptional. Taylor managed to score 31 runs and not out. The home team's scoreboard stated 243-2.
For Holder, it may have been small comfort that both experienced and astute captains weren't able to read the pitch. He would have been less happy than his bowlers misused it mostly. And, finally found themselves with their backs to the wall at stumps. The pitch was completely carpeted with grass. It was almost amalgamating into the outfield.
