Karun Nair’s long-awaited return to the Indian Test team may not have had the smoothest build-up. The 33-year-old batter, set to play against England in the first Test starting June 20, reportedly struggled during a recent practice session. According to RevSportz, Nair looked uncomfortable facing both pace and spin at Headingley.
He had difficulty handling deliveries from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, playing tentative defensive shots and appearing unsure at the crease. Against spinners like Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, he fared little better, attempting uncharacteristic strokes such as the reverse sweep. Nair’s struggles culminated in him being bowled by Jadeja. He also took a blow below the ribs and required guidance from batting coach Sitanshu Kotak. While the comeback story is compelling, his form in the nets raises concerns ahead of the high-stakes series opener.
