Khawaja expects to be ready for the Gabba Test

Usman Khawaja is confident regarding his fitness for the second Test in Brisbane, despite suffering severe back spasms during the series opener. However, he risks disciplinary action after harshly criticizing the Perth pitch, labeling the inconsistent surface "a piece of s***" due to its dangerous bounce. Khawaja noted that nineteen wickets fell on day one, with batters frequently struck, contrasting the match referee’s official "very good" rating.

The injury forced him down the order to number four, where he scored only two runs. Although Travis Head’s century secured victory, Khawaja remains determined to play at the Gabba. He revealed he was prepared to undergo an epidural to bat during the chase if required. Now recovering, the veteran opener credits his wife for his recuperation.

Despite the selection debate sparked by Head’s performance, Khawaja asserts his back feels solid and he expects to retain his place for the upcoming day-night encounter.
