Matthew Mott stepped down as England's white ball coach

Matthew Mott stepped down as England's white-ball coach on Tuesday after their disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup, where they were knocked out by eventual champions India in the semifinals. His departure comes on the heels of England's failure to defend their 50-over World Cup title last year. Mott's coaching tenure began on a high note, leading England to their second T20 World Cup victory in 2022 in Australia, defeating Pakistan in the final. In light of Mott’s resignation, former opener Marcus Trescothick has been appointed as the interim coach.

Rob Key, managing director of England men's cricket, expressed gratitude for Mott's contributions, stating, “On behalf of everyone connected to England cricket and me personally, I would like to thank Matthew for all he has done for the team since his appointment.” The change comes as England looks to rebuild and regain its status in white-ball cricket.
