New Zealand completed an exceptional fightback which knocked out the 2010 champions and 2016 runners-up England from T20 World Cup. The team that knocked out pre-tournament favorites India from the tournament pulled off a brutal blitz to qualify for their maiden T20 World Cup final and at the same deny Eoin Morgan’s side a history writing qualification.
Moeen Ali’s knock of 51 helped England to a respectable score of 166-4 from their 20 overs. Dawid Malan, Jos Buttler, and Liam Livingstone also contributed to the total after New Zealand had a firm grip in the first 10 overs but England scored 99 from the final ten overs to get over the slow start. In their chase later England’s Chris Woakes and Livingstone took two wickets each to limit New Zealand to 107-4 in the 16th over, but Kane Williamson’s side then scored 57 in the last four overs in the thrilling chase that saw them move ahead in the competition.
