Legendary South African captain Graeme Smith acknowledged that the Indian Premier Competition is the only franchise cricket league in the world that can rival it. Smith has been chosen to serve as the SA20 franchise league tournament's commissioner. Interestingly, six teams in the SA20 league are owned by Indian Premier League franchise owners: the Durban Super Giants, Jo'burg Super Kings, MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
However, there is no direct affiliation between the SA20 league and the IPL. Smith, who has participated in the IPL as a player and commentator, claimed that the cash-rich league's meteoric rise in India is psychological and that no other franchise competition can now match it. The former captain proposed that SA20 will help South African cricket, which hasn't been at its best lately, by reviving the time zones and cricketing culture.
