Olly Stone has replaced the injured Atkinson in England squad

Olly Stone, a fellow pacer, has been appointed as the substitute for England fast bowler Gus Atkinson, who has been rested for the next One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia. Australia will play three Twenty20 Internationals against England, and then a five-match ODI series at Trent Bridge starting on September 19.

Atkinson was originally included in the team that was released earlier this month. He has played nine One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for England, taking 11 wickets at an average of 35.27. He played his last ODI against the West Indies in late 2023, while England was touring the Caribbean. Even though Atkinson was crucial to England's 2-1 victory in the Test series against Sri Lanka, the ECB decided to give the seamer a break for the Australia series. In lieu of Atkinson, the 30-year-old fast bowler from Nottinghamshire, Olly Stone, has been called up to the ODI team.
