Cricket Australia have appointed Pat Cummins as the team's new ODI captain, replacing Aaron Finch in the role after his retirement, after the cricketing board posted on its website the choice of the official captain for added responsibility. While David Warner and Steve Smith, among others, remain as captain of the Twenty20 team at least until the T20 World Cup concludes next month, veteran opener Warner and his colleagues will retain control of the national side in limited-overs cricket.
Following the T20 World Cup in India in 2017, Cummins will be the main focus of Australia's limited-overs team. He will also lead the team in the 50-over World Cup in India the following year. Warner was the strongest candidate for the job after the ODI captain' Code of Conduct was rewritten to give him an exemption for leadership.
