After sweating out on the field for the first four days of Test 1 England had ended their second inning as well and put up a decent target for India for Day 5. India actually had a shot at winning the match with 9 wickets in hand and a target of 157 in front. What they did not account for is rain washing out the whole final day of the test match laying waste to the four-day ordeal.
The match would be included in the new cycle of the World test Championship cycle, India and England both would log in 4 points each. Virat Kohli and the team were forced to give up on the dream to add 12 points from the match. In the end, England captain Joe Root was given the player of the match award and the highlight of the Test series for India was Jasprit Bumrah’s 9 wicket haul as well as KL Rahul’s 84 run effort.
