During the last session of the first Test at Mount Maunganui on day two, South Africa bowled New Zealand out for 511. In his Test debut, Proteas skipper Neil Brand finished with stats of 6-119 with his left-arm spin, while Rachin Ravindra top-scored with a career-high 240. Just before tea, Ravindra was bowled in the game after showing off his extraordinary skill on the ground and leading the home team to a huge total against the inexperienced assault.
Starting the day on 118, the left-hander hit 26 fours and one six, displaying a prolific strokemaking style that was reminiscent of the 50-over World Cup in India last year. Later a 232-run stand between Kane Williamson and Ravindra also set the tone for the game but Williamson was caught on 118 while attempting to smash a huge hit off de Swardt.
